An Operating System is the software which communicates with the hardware of a computer system and functions as the intermediary between applications and the hardware, including peripherals such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it transmits requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Identical to a personal computer, hosting servers also use an Operating System which acts as a host for all of the software installed on them, which includes script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and so on. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you can install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host Operating System.
Multiple OS in VPS Web Hosting
If you select one of our virtual private server
plans, you'll have 3 different Operating Systems to pick from - CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu. They are all Linux distributions and we offer them instead of offering just a single OS, as the apps that you may want to run on the server may have specific requirements for the software environment. Each of the three has certain advantages with regard to the available packages that you could eventually install, but what is common between them is the fact that they are really stable and dependable and have vast communities which support them. The web hosting Control Panel options for the VPS accounts depend on your OS choice, so as to provide you with more flexibility. In case you order the virtual server with one OS and you need a different one later, our tech support team can easily reinstall the VPS with the new one in a couple of minutes. We also offer you the option to keep the Operating System on your server up-to-date on a weekly basis.

The Operating System will also determine what internet hosting Control Panel you can use since the Control Panels that we offer run on particular OSs only and since we want to give you as much flexibility as possible, we offer several OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you choose a server with a given Operating System, we will change it upon request if it turns out that you'll need alternative one.
